Fifteen years ago, a mixed group of leading Mumbai personalities, all lovers of literature, met at a gathering and began to wonder why their beloved city, with all its avid readers, did not have a book festival. One of them, Anil Dharker, was inspired to passionately take up this challenging enterprise. And so was born Literature Live! The Mumbai Litfest, which has grown to be an internationally known, annually awaited literary festival, putting Mumbai on the global Litfest map.
Presented without a break since 2010, the Festival offers a wide variety of panel discussions, debates, performances, book launches, book swaps, workshops for all ages and interests. Down the years, the best of the best of the world’s authors, poets, thinkers, movers and shakers, across countries, ages, genders, languages and dispositions - from Anita Desai to Salman Rushdie, from A C Grayling to Margaret Drabble, from Amitav Ghosh to Sudha Murty, from Adil Jussawalla to Geetanjali Shree, from from Amjad Ali Khan to Usha Uthup, from David Baldacci to Varun Grover, from Indra Nooyi to Rohini Nilekani, from Leander Paes to Mike Brearly - have moved, dazzled, informed, and delighted our audiences.
