Most musicians find creative fulfilment in exploring one genre throughout their lives, but a few are propelled to range far and wide. In this session, a scintillating polymath from the latter inclination, whose foundational training was in Carnatic music, talks about his relentless urge to travel across genres, collaborate with Hindustani, jazz and Western classical musicians and build bridges between them. He describes one such bridge, a potentially pathbreaking framework to integrate two disparate key musical concepts: the raga and harmony, which will allow Western music orchestras to play Indian compositions.
