Christopher Merrill is the author of eight collections of poetry, most recently, On the Road to Lviv; six books of non fiction, including Only the Nails Remain: Scenes from the Balkan Wars, The Tree of the Doves: Ceremony, Expedition, War, and Self-Portrait with Dogwood; and numerous volumes in translation. He directs the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa.
